Varujan Vosganian

Former Minister of Economy and Finance

Vosganian was born into a family of Armenian ethnicity. After completing secondary education at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" Focsani Commerce graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies (1982, as head of promotion) and Mathematics University of Bucharest (1991). He won the 1998 academic title of Doctor in Economics at the Academy of Economic Studies.
In 1990, he joined the Provisional Council of National Unity (PCNU). That same year, Armenians founded Union of Romania, whose president is today. He represented the Armenian minority in Romania as deputy Parlemantul two legislatures (1990-1992 and 1992-1996), performing this function as leader of the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities (October 1992 - December 1995), member of National Minorities (the 1993), Economic Commission IST member of the Committee for Human Rights, Religious and national minorities issues (1990-1992), member of the Committee for economic policy, reform and privatization and to advise the Special Commission legislative proposal on national minorities and autonomous communities ( 1992-1996).
He founded Romanian Alternative Party (PAR), together with Adrian Iorgulescu and Laurentiu Ulici, shortly before parliamentary elections in 1996 and became its president (1996-1999). Romanian Alternative Party changed its name to the Union of Right Forces on March 28, 1999, Vosganian served as co-chair (1999-2001) and president (2001-2003) of the party. UDF coalition was a member of the CDR in 2000, launched in August 2000 in order to participate in the elections of 2000. UDF merged by absorption with the National Liberal Party on April 19, 2003.
He was elected senator in the legislature 1996-2000 Iasi (Romanian Democratic Convention lists) and legislature 20004-2008 (NLP lists). In this capacity, he served as president of the Budget, Finance, Banking and Capital Market Activity of Senate (December 1996 - October 1998, December 2004 - December 2006), member of the Committee for Employment and Social Protection (December 2006 - February 2007) and Economic Commission, industry and services (February 2007), and member of the Romanian Parliament delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (December 2004 - March 1, 2007).
In 2003, following the merger by absorption of the UDF with PNL is a member Vosganian PNL Central Permanent Bureau, member National Governing Council of the Alliance "Truth and Justice" and coordinator of the National Strategy of the Liberal Party (2003 -2005). Then meets management positions within the Liberal Party, member of the Executive Committee of the Liberal Party (2005-2007), spokesman (since 2006) and Vice President Region 1 (North - East) (2007).
On December 12, 2006, Vosganian is appointed as Minister of Economy and Trade in the Tariceanu Government, then after government restructuring of April 5, 2007, takes over the portfolio of Minister of Economy and Finance (by merging with the portfolio of economy and finance conersului

In parallel with political activity, Vosganian is associate professor at the Faculty of International Relations of the Academy of Economic Studies, vice president of the Writers' Union of Romania (2005), founding member of the Romanian Economy (SOREC), member of International Experts Centre of European Policy Studies based in Brussels (1992-1995), Honorary Member of the Scientific Council of the National Forecast Institute and Senior Researcher of National Institute of Economics.

He is an active supporter of Forum Invest conferences & summits which he often attended as speaker.
