Dr. Akkan Suver
President Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation, Turkey
Since 1997, Dr. Akkan Suver has been the President of the “Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation”, the first Turkish NGO having special consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC.
He has been appointed as the Honorary Consul General of Montenegro to Istanbul by the Government of the Republic of Montenegro on May 28, 2008.
In 2007 Dr. Akkan Suver was awarded with Pope 16th Benedictus Medal for his intensive contribution in Intercultural Studies. Secondly, in 2006, in Mongolia, he is again awarded by Chenghiz Han Medal by President of Mongolia Nambar Eukhbayar for the success of Eurasian Economic Summits. And in 2005, he is awarded with State Progress Medal by Azerbaijan President İlham Aliyev.
In 2007 He has been elected as an observer member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) by 12 member states of the PABSEC in its general assembly held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Between 1998 and 2008, he served as the President of the Eurasian Economic Summits held annually for the seventh time in Istanbul with the participation of several world leaders from 30 countries; organized and chaired Inter-faith Summit Meetings to bring together the Greek, Armenian, Syrian Patriarchs and the Jewish Chief Rabbi and the Director of Religious Affairs of Turkey along with the number of clerical leaders throughout the world, with a view to building love and tolerance among religions since seven years; member of the Academic Council of the Azerbaijan Ataturk Center; actively attended the “Yes to the European Union” Campaign along with 210 non-governmental organizations, organized meetings in Germany, Belgium, Britain and Italy.
Between 2000-2004he was a columnist at “Takvim” Daily Newspaper.
Between 2000-2008 he represented Turkey, as an observer, in the Belorussian Elections (2000), the Referendum for Presidency of Uzbekistan (2001), the Constitutional voting in Azerbaijan (2002), the Presidential elections in Azerbaijan (2003), General Elections in Kazakhstan (2007) and Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan (2007).
Between 1990 and 2000 he was Vice President of the Turkish Boxing Federation and Member of the Scientific Committee of the World Boxing Association.
In the period 1995-1997 he was Assistant Secretary General of the Nationalist Action Party (MHP), a Turkish political party . In 1997, he ended his political career by his own decision.

1980-1987 Published “New Thought” (Yeni Düşünce) weekly.
1976-1980 Columnist with Istanbul dailies: Güneş, Hergün, Orta Doğu, Tercüman, Türkiye and Dünya.
1971- 1976 Chief Editor of “La Gazette,” an Istanbul daily published in French.
1968-1971 Co-published “Yenigün,” an economic daily.
1966-1968 Military Service, as reserve officer at the Turkish General Staff HQ, Ankara.
1962-1966 Started his journalistic career with the daily “Son Saat”; was later appointed as Assistant Editor of “Dünya”. He has lifelong “Honorary Press Card”
Has 12 published books. He is a Member of the Turkish Journalists Association, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Francophile Journalist Association and the Turkish Ethics Foundation and İstanbul Aydın University Board of Trustees.
Dr Suver is married to Müjgan Suver, a leading Turkish lady politician, civil rights leader, international NGO activities organizer and president of the Human Rights Platform of the Marmara Foundation.
He participated as speaker at ENERGY 2008 Forum.
